Spearfishing San Jose del Cabo

San Jose del Cabo • Los Cabos • Mexico

Salty’s is offering beginner-friendly spearfishing trips to the pristine reefs of the East Cape, just minutes from Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose del Cabo. You enter the sea armed as an active hunter. Peel away the layers of modern life and get back to basics. Spearfishing is the oldest form of fishing, and thereby it really takes you back to our hunter-gatherer roots. Namely, Human vs Nature! If you can snorkel you are subsequently qualified to learn to spearfish.

Spearfishing is one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly ways to consume seafood – in other words, what you shoot, you can eat – there is no wastage or by-catch. We can take you to places that will cook your catch for you – not only is the circle of life preserved, but you also have memories to last a lifetime! Our guides will provide you with basic instruction in freediving, as well as how to safely use the spears. We will find the hunting grounds perfect for your abilities and for the weather conditions. Our guide will be in the water with you the entire time to help – join us to experience the best spearfishing San Jose del Cabo has to offer.

Tour Description:

In brief, if you haven’t tried it already, a spearfishing charter isn’t your typical fishing trip.

Instead of waiting on the boat for a bite, you enter the sea armed as an active hunter.

Modern spearfishing uses new technology, thereby bringing this ancient human activity up to date as a growing sport.

It is a challenge!  We have our advantages, and similarly the fish have theirs, and not to mention they are in their own element!  However, that’s exactly what makes it so fun. We should warn you, you might become addicted and start a new hobby! Incidentally, if this doesn’t sound like what you’re looking for, have a look at our Sportfishing Trips.

If you are already experienced, don’t shy away from our reef trips.  We have great reef fishing away from the crowds. For example, routinely catch jacks, groupers, snappers, grunts, Spanish mackerel, pompano, and more right on the reef.  Our experienced guide will work with you as a spotter to help get you lined up for the perfect shot.

Sign up today and bring your entire group down. Our custom boat has room for 8.

For tens of thousands of years humans have been bonding over fishing trips and then telling wild stories about it.  Come put a new spin on your next trip.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes. You can purchase them here at the marina or online at  https://www.sportfishingbcs.gob.mx/

How many people can go on a tour?

Our tours need a minimum of two people.  The boat can fit 8 but we only allow 4 active hunters at a time.  So, some divers will have to take turns using the spears or only snorkel if your group has more than 4.

Do I need to bring anything?

All the gear is provided.  Just bring something to swim in, and maybe a towel for after.  A jacket is recommended in the winter months. It gets cool when you are wet and in the wind. We also have drinking water on board.

Are there age restrictions?

Only guests 15 and older can use the spears. Guests 12 and under need to be supervised by an adult when they are in the water.

Do I need experience?

This tour is great for first-timers and experienced spearos alike. If this is your first time, you should be able to swim and be comfortable using snorkel equipment.

My ears hurt when I go underwater. Can I dive?

Our guides will show you how to equalize the pressure in your ears. It’s as easy as making them ‘pop’ on the airplane.

Where can I get my fish cleaned?

Due to Mexican law and regulation, all fish are to be cleaned at the filet station; we are unable to do this on board as much as we’d prefer to do so. The filet station is located on the marina and will be your last stop. It is built just a few years ago and very well equipped. This service is free of charge. However, a small tip for the person who is filleting your fish for you is appreciated. We will help you to get through it, no worries.
